With over 90m passengers passing through it every year, the Waterloo complex in London is the busiest transport interchange by passenger usage in the UK and one of the busiest railway terminals in Europe.
In July 2012 a major upgrade to the station was completed by the current station owner and operator, Network Rail, aiming to create new retail spaces, improve passenger flow and ease the congestion in the main terminal.
A new 220m balcony, running along almost the whole width of the concourse at the first-floor level, features CS’s APF Expansion Joint Cover.
The APF model was chosen for the project due to its excellent durability and ability to withstand heavy rolling loads. The APF’s tamperproof installation requires minimal maintenance and since the APF allows for different frame depths, the expansion joint cover was able to work with the various adjacent floor finishes.
